I went to a Catholic grade school in the 60s - and the Pastor was convinced that we.could be attacked by Russia (or other Commies) at any moment. We regularly had "duck and cover" drills, and even occasionally went into the bomb shelter in the school basement. Unlike the reality of school shootings today, those drills did not create much fear or anxiety for us - it was not an existential threat. I can't imagine how different it is for today's students. When will we actually address the gun problem in this cointry?
The only drill I remember in grade school, was huddling against a wall in case of nuclear attack …
We Gen Xers are too young for nuclear drills and too old for school shooting drills. Although not any more, now that I’m a teacher!
