I enjoyed this! Very creative, and I am pretty sure I got them all, although iffy on the second extra credit question.

And #10... did it get accidentally abbreviated? I have a guess based on what's there, but it looks like some of it may be missing.

Anyway, good work! Lots of fun

Just fixed it Mike! Thank you!

Yep, it was who I thought it was! Again this is very creative and well-done. I may swipe your technique sometime for a children's sermon (or even a grown-up one!) :)

Check 10 again, Thomas—I inadvertently published it in a truncated form. It’s fixed now!

You got all of them except 8, Thomas! The answers are Aaron and Moses.

Second that!

Thanks, Alan! If you’re seconding Amy’s answer-key request, I’ll post one later today!

Fun approach, thanks for sharing. But now I need need the answer key, to figure out where my grade school Bible History has failed to stay lodged in my brain.

Answer key now posted, Amy! :)

Thanks, Amy! I’ll post an answer key later this afternoon!

I did not look at anyone else's answers, use the internet, or even check the Bible. 😇

1. Pontius Pilate; Jesus Christ

2. Sanhedrin; Jerusalem

3. Pharaoh; Egypt

4. Babylonians (Is Marduk mentioned in the Bible? I don't remember. I guess you've taught me something new!)

5. Joseph; Israel

6. Cain; Abel

7. Melchizedek; David (I don't remember him trying to be a priest, so I'm unsure of this answer); Jesus Christ

8. Aaron; Moses (Again, I don't remember Moses anointing Aaron with oil... if I'm correct. Shame on me! About a year ago, I started reading the entire Bible again and I'm now in the Book of Jeremiah. This stuff should be fresher in my memory.)

9. Eve; the serpent (Satan)

10. Is this incomplete? If it's not, then I don't know the answers.

Bonus #1: Josephus

Bonus #2: Oh, I know this guy but I can't remember his name!😭

So, Mr. Greydanus, what's my score? Can you tell me which ones I got wrong?

P.S. No offense, but I hated school (sorry, I'm just being honest). However, this was fun. 😁

Question 10 was initially published in incomplete form, Christopher—check it again!

10. Paul; um... Jesus?

You can send me a personal message with my test results. 👍

Ugh, I completed the question text, but I didn’t notice that the answer blanks had bad information from the previous question. Updated again!

Christopher Wilbur's avatar

10. Paul; Stephen (the deacon 😥)

Now that I have looked at the other comments, sending me a personal message isn't necessary since you are publishing the answer key.

Good answers, Christopher! Some notes:

4. Marduk is mentioned by name in the Bible, in Jeremiah 50:2; he is also known by another name, Bel, as in Bel and the dragon (Daniel 14), etc! But my students mostly know the name (if they know it, LOL) from the Extra Mythology animated Enuma Elish that I show them to give them perspective on how weird/unusual Genesis 1 is! 😃

7. Yes, David clearly aspires to be a priest-king like Melchizedek, most clearly by a) making Jerusalem, Melchizedek’s city, his own capital; b) bringing the Ark of the Covenant and the tabernacle to Jerusalem; c) wearing a linen ephod while bringing the Ark up with sacrifices; d) giving the people wine and cakes like Melchizedek bringing out bread and wine; and e) aspiring to build a temple for God. When God, through Nathan, tells David that God will make David a house (i.e., a dynasty), and that David’s son will build God a house, David’s response includes the lines of Psalm 110, addressed to his son: “The Lord has sworn an oath and will not change his mind: ‘You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.’” These words apply first to Solomon, who did build the first Temple, but more deeply to the ultimate Son of David, Jesus, who builds the true house of God, the Church.

8. Yes, Moses anoints Aaron in a major ordination ceremony lasting a week! It’s in Leviticus 8 and in Deuteronomy too.

9. Yes, Eve and Satan, although I prefer my students to answer Eve and the snake (Genesis doesn’t say it was Satan!).

Extra 2: Tacitus! 🙂

I read Jeremiah 34 today, which is the beginning of section IV: Fall of Jerusalem, in my St. Joseph Bible. I was hoping to see Marduk mentioned there (wouldn't that have been a coincidence!) but it seems I have a little while before I get to it.

Well, I did answer the serpent.

Thanks for the reply!
