Saint Paul did more or less the same sort of thing when he took the line “In him we live and move and have our being” from Epimenides (originally in reference to Zeus) and re-applied it to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
I really like the idea of the pagan philosophers stumbling into little crumbs of truth (even if it’s a prototype of the “golden rule” embedded in the natural law) that point to Christianity in ways they could not perhaps anticipate.
Nice work. I've been on the fence about seeing it, simply since I'm so out of the habit of seeing movies, but this definitely a +1 in the see-it column! I've been a bit excited to revisit the Odyssey ever since OSP's excellent summary telling of the Trojan War (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLodQGpIpIs).
Minor phrasing tweak: "yet the story demands that Odysseus use deception to wreak thrilling, crowd-pleasing vengeance on the odious suitors in his own home, as the story demands" - might want to touch-up the duplicate phrasing.
Great work. Thrilled that someone else made the Schindler's List connection (this is the first review I've read that mentions it). I think making Zendaya/Athena Odysseus' equivalent of Schindler's red coat girl may have been my favorite choice Nolan made here; utterly unexpected, but opens up the film in a really rich direction.
